- The NSW records show that our Group was first
registered in 1916
- which is the same year that Baden Powell
started Cubs in the UK.
- However it took the instigation of the Reverend
Arnold Connolly,
- the rector of St John's Church Gordon, to form
the Scout Troop.
- Meetings were then held for many years in the
Parish Hall on Friday nights.
- The present hall is the second on the site. The
first was a smaller, wooden
- structure built in 1932 that in those days cost
626 pounds. It had no kitchen,
- and the Leaders' Den, storage area and Rover
den were positioned under the
- hall. Unfortunately it is thought that
vandalism by fire destroyed the building
- in 1959. 2 years later in 1961, with the help
of a great many supporters which
- included former members of the group, the new
hall that we use today was built.

- In the 40 odd years since our
current Scout Hall was rebuilt, there have been
- many changes in the suburb of
Gordon. Indeed we have been very fortunate to
- have the bushland surrounding our
Scout Hall preserved to near its original state.
- The creek behind us still flows and
the tracks along it provides some wonderful
- bushwalking opportunities.

- While scouting values are timeless
and are the foundation of our international
- organisation the method by which we
now manage our cub packs and
- scout troops have been updated to
meet the expectations of the youth of today
- and the statutory requirements of
all levels of government.
- All our leaders are trained by
instructors of the highest standards and receive
- accreditation accordingly. In fact,
a number of government and
community
- organisations have adopted or are
adapting our training programmes for
their own
- use.

- This is also true with the tools we
use. While we can still do a mean reef knot
- and build a lovely camp fire for
roasting marshmallows, high tech tools are
- now an
integral part of our leaders' kitbag. This website is a good
example. We
- view this website as a tool for the
public, our youth members and
our leaders.
- It is a source of ready information
but it is also a dynamic way to
communicate
- with our members and the public. Our
leaders use this site
extensively to plan
- their programs, share resources and
review the progress of our
pack.
- Emails are now accepted as
the norm just as telegraph was
